Sebastian Akl

Physiotherapist

MPT, BKin, Functional Dry Needling

Hi my name is Sebastian! I completed my Masters of Physical Therapy and Bachelors of Kinesiology at the University of British Columbia. My passion for healthy living and exercise are what motivated me to pursue this field. During my time at UBC, I gained invaluable experience with many local organizations – UBC Recreation, Special Olympics BC, and ICORD’s PARC Program which researches the impacts of exercise in the spinal cord injury population. Physical activity and health have always had a large influence on my life. I have seen first-hand what living a healthy lifestyle can offer to an individual: pushing themselves to go beyond what they believed could be accomplished and being empowered with the confidence to succeed in other aspects of life.

My treatment-style incorporates an active therapeutic approach for patients through hands-on manual therapy, rehabilitative exercise, soft tissue techniques, IMS/ Dry Needling, goal setting, and education. My previous personal and work experiences have helped me develop a special interest in foot, ankle, Achilles, and ACL rehab; running mechanics and injury; running assessment; cycling, Ironman, and triathlon rehab.

I recently moved to Edmonton from Vancouver and am excited to start a new adventure in Alberta. I am a die-hard Canucks fan and always open to discussing the Edmonton Oilers’ issues with any and everyone. Outside of work you can find me running or cycling on the trails (of course stopping and petting every dog I see), training for my next triathlon, and exploring every new coffee shop Edmonton has to offer.
