Jessica To

Acupuncturist

Hello, my name is Jessica. I graduated from the University of Alberta with a Bachelor’s of Science in Biological Sciences, with a specialization in Molecular Genetics. I worked as a research scientist in Metabolomics and NMR spectroscopy, before changing gears and completing the MacEwan University Diploma program for Acupuncture. While in school for Acupuncture, I also worked as a cosmetician and make-up artist. I was licensed as a Registered Acupuncturist (R.Ac) in two provinces (Alberta and British Columbia), but have decided to make my primary home base in Edmonton.

The Acupuncture training I received differs from the training most Physiotherapists receive in that my treatment plans are based on Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) concepts, in addition to managing issues identified from a Western Medicine approach. This means I may select needling treatment points outside of the area of concern, in order to create an efficient treatment plan based on TCM. In addition to needling, I also provide other TCM related modalities such as Moxibustion, Gua Sha (known as Graston technique), Cupping, Acupressure and Tui Na Massage, and Electroacupuncture (applying Acupuncture in conjunction with E-Stim). The moxibustion treatments I provide are electric and provide the same benefits of traditional moxibustion, without involving the physical burning of the mugwort herb.

TCM is a complete health care system approach to treating and preventing disease, and Acupuncture is a component of care that can assist in treating many conditions. I am interested in using TCM and Acupuncture for the treatment of musculoskeletal injuries and pain, phantom pains, women’s health, cosmetic acupuncture, and assisting patients in achieving and maintaining a healthy lifestyle that works for them.

Outside of work, I enjoy spending time with my husband, family, friends, and my dog Wonderful. I am a bit of a homebody and enjoy playing video games in the spare time I may have, but I also enjoy exploring new cities and cuisines. At home, I enjoy cooking TCM cuisine while maintaining a western friendly palate, baking or making other dairy free desserts, and designing new recipes to share. While I do enjoy occasionally dabbling in traditional sports, I have a growing passion in the developing field of eSports.

Feel free to reach out if you have any questions or book an appointment and find out if TCM is right for you.
